Nambu Cast Iron was first made in the middle of the 17th century in Iwate, Northern Japan, an area rich with deposits. Is is said that a master from Kyoto was summoned by the lord to create an iron vessel for a tea ceremony, and thus began Nambu Cast Iron. It became exemplary of Japanese Traditional Craft, and is still popular today.
